The Beginning

I am not a writer first off so bear with me as you follow my journey. My journey as I see it is one that will reverse 30+ years of bad eating habits and lack of exercise. I am 39 years old weigh 245 lbs after having my son Kojo 3 months ago. I weighed in at 230 lbs last February when I traveled to Ghana, West Africa to meet Kojo's daddy in person. A pregnancy with gestational diabetes that was controlled by diet and low dose of oral medications (thankfully my doctor used insulin injections as a last resort option) left me 32 lbs heavier at the end of my pregnancy and I have not lost the last 15 lbs to this date.

My desire is to become healthy so that I can run along side my son Kojo and actively play with him without becoming tired. My goal in this journey is to eat healthier, become active, reverse my diabetes, and guide my son to a healthy life also.

My first big change will be to eliminate fast food! This will be a hard one for me but there is nothing good about food that after sitting out for a year basically looks the same as the first day it was made! I am challenging myself to not eat fast food or pay! My friend has asked how she can help me because she cares for me, so now is her turn to profit from my journey. I am making myself accountable to someone. An idea came to me today, I will pay this very special friend of mine $5 each time I slip and eat a fast food meal. If I am accountable and have something to lose by eating bad food I am hoping I will think twice before eating it. With each meal I must ask myself if this going to get me to where I want to be or take me farther from that goal.

Planning my meals and snacks according to my bodies needs to maintain a healthy blood sugar level will take some organization and preparation on my part. I want to try new foods and see what I have been missing. Finding alternative preparation methods to make healthier meals that my body will recognize as food and nourishment.

I plan to share meal ideas, recipes, and exercise tips I find helpful to me on this journey. In doing so I hope others might find the information helpful on their journey as well.

Stay tuned this is gonna be a bumpy ride... but well worth it!

Love
